Prem Rawat's Teaching about Knowing vs Believing - In His Own Words

Maharaji's "reasoning" is based in simplification, extravagant hyperbole, straw man arguments and ignorance.

MaharajiI offer the possibility of knowing you so that you can be you. Without knowing you, you cannot be you, and if you cannot be you, you cannot be happy - like the cat, the crocodile, and the cow. It's important for you to know you so that you can be as happy as you can be. This is how simple it is. Find out who you are so you can be who you are. Whenever, wherever, even in the dark hours, be who you are so you can be happy, so you can be content, so you can find peace. Yes, you have many, many important things that you have to do. Place this one at the top, and then all the rest will fall in place. - Maharaji, Inspire v4 i121, 29 March 2007

We all need to believe. Especially when we don't know. I offer the possibility of knowing - Prem Rawat, 2007: ADI magazine, Issue 2

You don't have to go around just believing. You don't have to be stuck with reasoning. You can know. - Prem Rawat, Inspire v4 i132, 6 September 2007: Living Without Fear

MaharajiI absolutely believe that heaven is here. And I not only believe, I know this is the vessel that can feel the beauty of heaven. - Prem Rawat, Inspire v5 i142, 15 February 2008

You don't have to be in fear. You can have the feeling of a true heaven within you. You don't have to reason it and believe in it. You can know it … The world will have you believe. The world will have you reason. But some things you have to know. … You don't have to be in fear. You can have the feeling of a true heaven within you. You don't have to reason it and believe in it. You can know it. - Prem Rawat, 1st April 2010: ADI magazine, Issue 4

All the things that happen in our lives - the good and the bad -are just battles. And what is the war? Do you know that in you the most beautiful is taking place? It's the coming and going of the breath. In you is the source - the immortal source of peace. Knowing that and being able to feel that every day is winning the war. What do you do when you fight a war, and you realize your strategy is wrong? Change the strategy. You have looked outside; maybe it is time to look inside. You have believed in many things; maybe the time has come to know - Prem Rawat: ADI magazine, Issue 7

Rawat stressed this knowing over believing in his 2014 collection "Your Moment" He often gets a bit carried away and reveals his megalomania "I know that the peace exists in the heart of every single person" and uses "know" as a synonym for "believe" as even used metaphorically Rawat cannot know what is in everyones' hearts unless he is God. "Your Moment" is a testament to Prem Rawat's beliefs and teachings about knowing.

  • You think believing is easier than knowing? No! Believing is much more complicated. Knowing is a lot simpler. People have been trying to believe for a very long time. And those believers keep writing new books and coming up with new definitions, because nobody knows. But when you know, there is no reason to sit there and try to define anything. You know.
  • What do you have to do? You have to know the art of looking within. It's an art. Do you know it?
  • Is this spiritual? No. There are people who like spirituality. I must make a confession. I am not one of them. If you are into spirituality, more power to you. I'm not going to talk you out of it. You are entitled to believe whatever you want to believe. I am just saying, "Know."
  • Don't get me wrong. I'm not talking about believing. I know there are believers, and I have news for the believers. Knowing is one grade up. If you are a believer, knowing encompasses believing. Yet believing does not necessarily encompass knowing. So do you know the one you? Do you? I quote Socrates, Kabir and all these wonderful people through history who have told people that whatever they're looking for is inside of them
  • flourish in the gratification that comes from knowing the self. It's the sweetest gratification there is.
  • Come home. Come home to you. And know. Give this business of believing a break. Go for knowing. Try it. It hasn't been tried for thousands of years. People were simply satisfied by believing. Some people said, "Believe this," and other people said, "Great. I believe."
  • Know. Make a habit of knowing. Because it's a habit. Whatever you do most, you will get good at it. Make it a habit to know, to know the value of the breath. I'm not telling you to believe me. I never say, "Believe me." I say, "Know what I know." You feel it too. And only then you will know.
  • Live your life consciously, in gratitude, in knowing, in clarity, in simplicity.
  • Are we the seekers of truth? Absolutely not. Because it is an error when you do not know yourself. The first thing you should know is the self. And then you can know everything else.
  • I don't know how to cure society, but I know one thing, and I'm not guessing. I know this for sure. Peace dances in the heart of every human being.
  • That's like what I do. I go place to place and I say, "You're a human being. Be one!" Be a true human

I realized that "more fear you have, more believing you do. Less fear you have, more knowing you do." Maybe if you can begin to distinguish between knowing and believing, you can then start to get a clue of how much fear you actually have. Because, because of the fear, you don't want to know - so you believe. And believing is much easier - because there is no knowing involved. … the business of believing - that is a business. That is a business. And the business is you sell your beliefs to other people. You make them buy it. What's the alternative? Knowing. What's knowing all about? Wow. You don't sit there and talk about God - you feel God. You don't lecture on God. You don't lecture on God; you help people turn inside and feel the Divine that resides within them. You don't write books about believing; you write books about helping people to get to understand knowing. - PREM RAWAT: Lockdown Broadcast Day 82, The Difference between Knowing and Believing, Jun 12 , 2020

Christian: What do you think?
English premie: Oh I don't have to think, I know. (What do you know?) I have Knowledge of Guru Maharaj Ji. I have Guru Maharaj Ji's Knowledge. I don't have to think, I know. I have Guru Maharaj Ji's Knowledge.
Maharaji's Teaching About Faith

Yogiraj Param Sant Satgurudev Shri Hans Ji Maharaj, June, 1961, at Prem Nagar, India
Sublime devotion, however, comes from implicit faith and confidence in the Satguru of the time, and it must be clearly understood that only He who can bestow God-vision instantaneously within oneself is the Satguru of the time, and no one else. In reality, He is God incarnate. It is impossible to have unflinching confidence without personal experience of this divine light

Maharaji's Teaching About Faith

August 18, 1971
As long as we haven't seen God, we can't have faith in that. It is our Father anyhow, but we haven't seen Him. How can we say what His nature is and how can we have faith that He is the Savior of the whole world? We may believe that He is saving this whole world but we can't realize it because our mind is flickering. Until our mind settles to one point, we can't realize how God is saving this world. We can't have faith that "Yes, God is the real Savior."

Maharaji's Teaching About Faith

Hans Jayanti, Kissimmee, Florida, November 11 1978, afternoon
But what we really need in our lives, unless we get that -- what we really need in our lives, unless we really believe in that -- unless we have all our faith in that instead of in this materialistic world, I can't tell you what's possible. There are possibly no words to say what is in fact possible. Because that Knowledge brings us the reality that we all seek. That Knowledge brings us the Truth that we all want. That Knowledge brings us who we really are. And only the true realization, only by the Grace of Guru Maharaj Ji, is that possible. And so our key, obviously, is Guru Maharaj Ji. And that's where we have to have our faith. That's where we have to have our trust. I mean, how incredible is it? How could it be more perfect than to have this world, to have the burning, to have the suffering and yet have a salvation out of it? Only by Guru Maharaj Ji's Grace.

Maharaji's Teaching About Faith in Himself

Rome 1980 Ashram Satsang
"A premie is not just somebody who has received Knowledge. The word 'premie' again is a Hindi Word - premie mean lovers - but what is a premie? What is, what is a premie in this day and age and what has been a premie since ever since a human being was created? What is a, what is a premie, what is the definition of a premie? And the definition is one, you know, who has received the gift that Guru Maharaj Ji has bestowed upon that being, practices that gift, has that love, has that faith, and has surrendered in his heart towards Guru Maharaj Ji, towards the living Master of his day. Then you may say that's getting close enough to a definition of 'premie'." … do. There's a big difference in it. You know, if our faith in Guru Maharaj Ji is not there then obviously the mind's gonna win every single time. You know and I just see this whole act has to clean up, has to come to a point where the propagation can really begin to happen.
