Minutes for Meeting - 26th July 2000
In attendance: 9
Apologies: 3
Finances: J. provided a very comprehensive report for June. Expenses have been higher than total income. However costs will be covered as there are adequate funds in the account due to previous contributions.
Human Resources: M. provided a detailed report on the present situation of Human Resources. How can people be well informed regarding opportunities to participate on the local, national and international levels? Mary presented a form that could be filled in by interested people - simple and inviting in its format. Does the GC need to select a model on which to underpin the team structure? Possibilities include the formal adoption of the national model with its four triangular components. A second option could be one based on the model used by the HR team. This item will be discussed at the next meeting.
The Gold Coast now has a second recorded information line. This is for general announcements and Paul Furness has kindly taken on setting up and maintaining this line. This number is: (07) 5569 2216 (Introductory event and learning more event details are recorded on (07) 5523 1170)
When is a suitable time and day for future meetings? It has been proposed that if another appropriate venue is available on a Tuesday evening, then it will be given consideration at the next meeting. However in the meantime it was agreed to continue with the regular monthly meeting at the Community Room, Bourbon Street, Pacific Fair, on the last Wednesday evening of each month. Meetings are held from 6.15 pm to 8 pm. Everyone is welcome to attend. Lee spoke of her role and the opportunity it presents to link, support and assist various teams in their development, function and building. By her exposure to the teams while travelling to several centres, she is also able to provide feedback and ideas among centres. This is invaluable to all people wanting to be part of the broader vision.
Events: Due to various reasons including low attendances, it was decided to discontinue the events currently being conducted on Tuesday evenings. The final event will be on 8th August. The proposal was put forward that during the next month, J. will research other suitable venues which are in the north of the Gold Coast and less expensive than the Life Education Centre, at which videos especially for people who have received Knowledge can be screened. (Videos especially for people who have received Knowledge are available from the lending library and can be hired at the regular video events.) August calendar: Due to the ongoing screening of the satellite broadcasts each Sunday, it was decided to conduct two programs on Sunday, 20th August, so that an introductory event could also be held on a Sunday which has proven to be a preferred timeslot. Therefore on that date, the satellite broadcast will be screened at 4 pm and an introductory event will be held at 5.30 pm, followed by light refreshments. (Invitation cards are available at the information table at video events for the introductory event.) The satellite broadcast video that is screened on a Sunday is rescreened on the following Monday evening at the John Flynn Hospital at 7 pm (Seminar Room, First Floor).
Local contact role: P. has very effectively looked after this role for the past three months. As he is now extremely busy with travel arrangements, a change has to be made to this arrangement. Many thanks P. for your good care of this role. How to deal with this role is to be discussed fully at the next meeting. All ideas are welcome!
The position of Liaison person for the Life Education Centre is available and anyone interested in assisting in this can contact M. (G.). A very sincere thank you J. for the many years of your looking after this position so well.
The next meeting will be held on Wednesday, 30th August at 6.15 pm to 8 pm at the Community Room, Bourbon Street, Pacific Fair. Please pass agenda items to B. Everyone is warmly invited to attend.
