Prem Rawat's (Maharaji) Promise of Internal LSD & Meditation Fireworks

Prem Rawat had extraordinary success in gaining new followers in the West in the years 1970 to 1973. What was the cause of this incredible success? He was not the only Eastern guru promising higher states of consciousness through meditation but Rawat, unlike his more authentic competitors, was preaching and promising:

  • easy enlightenment and instant gratification on initiation
  • constant "Higher than LSD" bliss and meditation fireworks
  • personal Peace and and an Aquarian Age of World Peace
  • adoration and worship of God on Earth (Himself)

and he had a cadre of committed worshippers who were basically lying about their experience or as Rawat's right hand men would shortly admit exaggerating. The young guru was promising not only an internal LSD but an internal marijuana as well without any unpleasant side effects. Guru Maharaj Ji displayed an understandable ignorance about the effects of drugs but once he started smoking marijuana He realized that being stoned was more enjoyable than his normal state of God-realized consciousness. As it turned out, he preferred alcohol to marijuana.

Many youngsters say that when Lord Shiva came, He came with a bag of marijuana. But this is not true. He came with a bag of marijuana, but that marijuana was not the kind that you smoke or eat. That marijuana was the marijuana of this Knowledge. When people got it, they really got blissed out. If they just went into it, they really got blissed out. He didn't have these marijuanas and other things. These things are not the Word!

If man takes LSD, as long as he feels the effect of LSD, he feels okay, but when the LSD finishes, he is not okay, because he is no longer in bliss. So actually he is flying over rough, rough weather.

He goes up; he goes down. He goes up; he goes down. It's not going to help him.

What I have is a constant LSD. It's not LSD, it's like a built-in LSD which God provided you with when you were born. When you get into it, you're always blissed out. There's no need to come down from it. You can do all your daily activities. This Knowledge is so beautiful that you can walk and still meditate on it. You can do anything, still meditate upon it. I have got much greater thing to give it to you than something else. So come, leave these things and come to me. I've got a much, much better thing. Try it, you'll like it. It's much better and (cheering and applause) so it's much better and much far out. Thank you very much.

You must meditate for yourself, don't meditate for me. You should get high, not me, I am high enough. I am in the infinite state - Sayings of Guru Maharaj Ji

I remember one boy who came to me, in America I think it was. Yes, in America. And he had taken to much acid, so much LSD, and so many other things, that he asked me, "Have you taken LSD?" and I said, "No" and then he said, "How can you know that LSD's experience is not so big as the Knowledge experience?" I said, "If I walk into a car company and I say, 'Give me a Mercedes 600', and another man comes along who has got a 280 and asks me, 'How do you know a 280 is smaller than a 600?' and I say, 'Yours is 280 and mine is 600, so naturally 600 is bigger.' Natural sense, common sense. That's all it is. Right?" It's just common sense. It just comes to me, this is how I explain that Knowledge you cannot limit. My Knowledge is so big it hasn't even got a name. So big is it. It is infinitely bigger than LSD. LSD is just a small tablet, I have such a big Knowledge, infinite Knowledge. And so then he understood how this Knowledge, is much bigger than LSD. If you realize it you will be able to understand it perfectly. Once you have reached the stage of perfection, this is a very beautiful stage. It is really just so wonderful if you join that highest frequency, so beautiful because then you have got one vibration. Right now ten thousand different things are working on you at one time, and you really get messed up, but then only one thing works on you and it really purifies you, it really gives you the blessed experience. It is such a far out thing. After we receive Knowledge we must meditate, and have devotion and do service. Is there any other question? - 3rd August 1972, Denver, Colorado & Divine Light

The same thing is going on today. First of all, people were in search of God, and then Martin Luther and other people came, and so many other things came about. And then suddenly in 1968 or something like that came the hippies. And they started taking LSD and drugs and they all just freaked out. Then they said, "Oh, LSD is pretty expensive to buy and it's illegal too", so they started making it right in their homes! But these are not the ways to find God and we are ourselves being deluded because God is inside us and cannot be realized, our consciousness cannot be raised, by taking tablets. We must understand this. Because consciousness works on such a level that no bodily effect can touch it. This is common sense and we should understand it but unfortunately common sense is very uncommon. So people don't understand that tablets only effect our body. Because they are external they only affect external things, and consciousness is internal, so they cannot affect our consciousness. To reach our consciousness, we have to get onto a particular frequency. With some walkie-talkies you can listen to the police, you can hear them transmitting messages, but we cannot speak to them. If you want to speak to them you must get onto their frequency. In the same way, if you have a boil, a doctor can cut it from outside, but if your boil is within the doctor cannot cut it from outside. He has to take his scissors and his operating instruments and then he has to dissect you. - Acton Town Hall, 30th August 1972

You'll just go up, up, up and up, infinitely up, and that's it.

Now, there is the finite thing before us and the infinite thing. Infinity has got no end, but the finite thing has got an end. If there is a glass of water which is half full and we add half more to it, it will become one glass full of water, right? But in the case of infinity where everything is infinite, if we add something, still it will be infinite, it won't become full. If we take something out from it, it won't become less, because it is infinite, do you understand? So, as these many souls go and merge into the ocean, it won't become full because it is infinite, and if so many burst out of it still nothing will happen to it because it's infinite. But what we have to do now is to get onto the course to the infinite. I am flying, I know I am flying, but I have to be on the proper course to reach my proper destination. I could just take the plane up and let it fly, but that's not what I am going to do, I am going to set my course, my destination, and go and land there and see what it's like there. Or maybe I have to go back. But whatever I have to do, I have to first set my course, and this is what we have to do. First of all we have to get high, and the common way how to get high is with LSD. People say, "I'll take LSD, I'll take drugs and get high," but now there are no drugs here. People come to me and say, "Guru Maharaj Ji, why do you say not to take drugs? Drugs are a very natural thing." But I say, "You drive to this auditorium in your car, but do you bring your car into the hall. Do you? Why not? It carried you all the way from the house to the auditorium, then you leave it outside just standing there. You should bring it with you into the auditorium, because it brought you all the way from your house to here. But that doesn't mean you have to bring it inside, does it?" People say, "Oh, drugs helped us, they have helped us come to you." So I say, "Well if drugs helped you, that's good, but you can leave them now, because you have come to me." You just leave your cars, you get out of them and you come into the auditorium. In the same way you want to take drugs, so I'll give you a better drug. Leave the small drugs and I'll give you this better drug. Because you take one drug and then it goes off then you have to take another one, and that goes off, and all that costs money, but the drug I can give is constantly working in you twenty-four hours a day. It's built inside of you, it's a built-in drug, it's a built-in acid, it works inside you, and it is completely free. The only thing that has to be done is to connect the wire, then it starts working. It's the acid of consciousness, and you get consciousness, and when you get into consciousness you just go up and up and up and up into the stage of infinity. That's very beautiful because other drugs give you external experience, and this one gives you internal experience. You can do anything, you can drive your car, you can sit in your house, you can do anything, it's so far out, and you can still meditate upon it. And this is something that we really need these days, you know, because times are getting very, very strange. - Imperial College, London, 9th September 1972

Some people think there are other ways, like marijuana and other drugs, but no. Of those five million people, I think more than a million have taken drugs and found them useless. Because Knowledge is something that is built in within us. It is like an energy cell that is built in. It's not like an optional accessory. And marijuana is like an accessory that's lying outside, that you just take, right? But it's of no use, because there is a whole internal marijuana inside us. We try to get it from outside, but it is inside us.

And this won't make us go flat, you know, like marijuana and LSD do. They make us flat. We drive a car and see the road, but think it is something else. I was watching television in America and this movie came on, "Hawaii Five-O." And it showed all these people who take LSD, and this girl started driving her motorcycle but she just fell on the beach. She was seeing all the roads going wide and long. So there is no need of those things. The internal thing is excellent. The internal LSD is very powerful. There's no need to waste money, no need to waste time. Wherever you like, just take it, it's okay.

Like there is a saying in the Gita, Arjuna was told by Krishna on the battlefield, "Receive this Knowledge and fight also. Meditate on this Knowledge and go on fighting." And if Arjuna had taken LSD he wouldn't have been able to fight. Because he would have seen his arrow getting so long … Arjuna had something internal, not like that drug. That's what I am distributing to people. That's what I am revealing before you. And it's really good, it's really something inside us. - Delhi, India, during December, 1972

Prem Rawat, Dope Smoking, Boozing Hypocrite

By 1976 the young guru had been "getting sloshed" and stoned for at least 3 years. At least prior to 1973 he'd just been ignorant but from then on he was a full-on lying hypocrite.

Sophia Collier, who had been a journalist in Divine light Mission's Denver headquarters, wrote in her book "Soul Rush" published in 1978 that she and others were told by Bob Mishler, the President of Divine Light Mission, in 1974 that the 15 year old boy guru was "sloshed" at the Millenium '73 festival and she reported personally seeing his brother, Raja Rawat and sister-in-law, Claudia Rawat neƩ Littman, drunk at first hand.

What are we all about? Who are we? What are we doing here? I was reading some articles when I was in San Francisco, and the first time I went to San Francisco, one of the premies pointed out to me from where the whole LSD trip began. It's a little house, from where the whole LSD trip began, where hippie-ism supposedly began from this street in San Francisco. People were trying to run, to hide, to escape, from absence, but they just don't know that. They don't know that what is haunting them doesn't exist, so they can't escape from it, they can't hide from it, because it just doesn't exist. And that is why after going in to the whole trip of this world, after trying to hide so much, there is no satisfaction. But Knowledge brings us the presence. Knowledge brings us the presence of love. Brings us the presence of that reality that we want to go into and therefore the absence, the craziness automatically goes away, and that is all that happens in our lives. And we change, everything turns around because the absence has become presence, it becomes true. From fake, it becomes a reality. From a non-experience, it becomes an experience. - Frankfurt, November, 28 & 29 1976

And the simple thing is, because we become a premie, somehow we feel, "Okay, now that we are premies we are sheltered." But that's not the case. Where is your shelter? What is your shelter? The way it goes is, if you dedicate your life to Guru Maharaj Ji - if you dedicate your life to Guru Maharaj Ji - then you are sheltered by Guru Maharaj Ji's Grace. And the thing is, we have to ask ourselves the question: Have we dedicated our lives to Guru Maharaj Ji? Have we really given our lives to Guru Maharaj Ji? As simple as that. And are we truly qualified to be a recipient of that Grace, to be a recipient of that shelter of Guru Maharaj Ji? Of course not. Because we get out of one big trip from this world …

Whatever it is. Maybe it's smoking dope. Maybe it's LSD. Maybe it's something else. And this whole thing becomes another trip for us. One initiator was saying all these things today. In one sense it's really true. He was talking about this being the weirdest religion. I think all religions are weird, for that matter, not just this one. But this is not a religion. It's really true that we get into all these trips. Because without Guru Maharaj Ji, wherever you go, there will be trips. Without Guru Maharaj Ji, there will always be confusion. Without that Knowledge in your life, without the practice of Knowledge in your life, there will always be problems. Without that experience, you will constantly be, and will always be, indulged in the idiosyncrasies of this world. What can this world offer any one of us? What does this world have to offer? What is this world? It's a great big fancy fair that we create. - Hans Jayanti Festival, Kissimmee, Florida / November 5, 1979
